Japan's unemployment rate hits 3-year high in August

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3% in Japan, increasing by 0.1 percentage point compared to the same month last year to reach its highest level since May 2017, the country's Statistics Bureau said in a report on Friday.

The number of unemployed Japanese citizens grew by 490,000 year-over-year to land at 2.06 million.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons in the country amounted to 66.76 million in August, marking a decline of 750,000 on an annual basis.
