United States Department of Justice (DoJ) announced charges against eight individuals over "acting as agents" for China as part of Beijing's anti-corruption "Operation Fox Hunt."

The operation has been described by Washington as an "illegal law enforcement operation." Five of the accused have already been arrested, while the remaining three are believed to be located in China, the department added.

The goal of the alleged perpetrators was to bring Chinese citizens, mostly "dissidents, critics" and "opponents" to Chinese President Xi Jinping, back to their home country.
