Asian markets higher as vaccine sparks optimism

Equities on major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded with gains on Thursday after yesterday's reports of Pfizer and BiNTech vaccine candidate successfully creating antibodies against the novel coronavirus in trials. Traders also monitored developments in Hong Kong and on the Korean peninsula.

The Nikkei 225 index added 0.20% at 7:24 am CET. The Shanghai Composite rose by 1.29% at 7:09 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite Index advanced 0.86% at 7:24 am CET. The Hang Seng jumped 1.56% one minute later, while the Kospi gained 0.91% at 7:26 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia increased by 1.64% at the same time.

The dollar was flat compared to the yen, going for 107.4565 at 7:27 am CET.
