Prosecutors in Arizona claimed in a filing that Capitol rioters had plans to "capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government" when storming the building.

The Department of Justice memo mentioning the alleged plans were revealed when prosecutors asked a judge to detain Jacob Chansley (pictured) who was seen during the riots on January 6 with horns on his head in the US Senate chamber. The federal prosecutors went on to say Chansley threatened Vice President Mike Pence as he left the Republican a note that said: "it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming."

Chansley is set to appear in court on Friday. Earlier, his lawyer Albert Watkins stated that Chansley had been invited by President Donald Trump to take part in the siege of the Capitol, but added he was not armed or violent. Watkins also called on Trump to pardon Chansley.
