The United Kingdom gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 2.6% in November compared to the previous month, according to a monthly estimate released by the country's Office for National Statistics on Friday.

The first GDP drop after six months of increases came due to new restrictions imposed by the government in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. However, the figure still came in above analysts' expectations.

According to the report, the services sector contributed most to the contraction as it slid 3.4% compared to the previous three months and was down 9.9% from the level of February 2020, before the start of the pandemic.
