Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. said on Tuesday that reports that it is considering to break up its alliance with Renault SA are false.

"Nissan is in no way considering dissolving the alliance," the company said in a statement. "The alliance is the source of Nissan's competitiveness," it added. Meanwhile, the alliance's CEO Jean-Dominique Senard insisted in an interview with L'Echo published today that the "alliance is not dead" and slammed the reports which have "no connection to the current situation of the alliance."

On Monday, a report claimed that Nissan's leadership is considering the possibility of breaking up the alliance and stepping up contingency plans for such a scenario.
