The main equity indexes in New York closed off session highs on Friday after United States President Donald Trump told reporters that only a "phase one" deal was reached in bilateral talks with China and that it would take "up to five weeks" for it to be drafted. Still, the next round of import tariffs was suspended.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied 1.21% or more than 300 points with Dow Inc. and Caterpillar at the top of the pile with 4.93% and 4.65%, respectively. Today it briefly topped 27,000 points for the first time since October 1, in a surge of more than 500 points.

The Nasdaq 100 rallied 1.34% where Fastenal posted a historic 17.15% spike following surprisingly good quarterly results. Wynn Resorts, which is heavily exposed to China, like the top performers in the Dow, followed with a 6.34% surge. The S&P 500 gained 1.09%. The euro was 0.3% in the green at $1.10386 at 4:07 pm ET and the pound traded 1.72% up at $1.26527. Gold dropped 0.47% to $1,486.63 per ounce.
