Asian stocks mixed amid trade uncertainty

Stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly with gains on Wednesday as investors learned about the latest developments in trade talks between the US and China.

According to media reports, Beijing is now asking Washington to remove all levies in order to get it to agree to sign the phase-one deal, making the future of the deal uncertain.

The Nikkei 225 closed 0.22% in the positive territory, while the Shanghai Composite declined 0.43% at the close. South Korea's Kospi ended the session 0.08% above the flat line. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.15% at the close.

Meanwhile, the Hang Seng lost 0.08% at 8:37 am CET. The Shenzhen dropped 0.78% a minute later.

The US dollar lost 0.17% against the yen, buying 108.9980 at 8:42 am CET.
