Asian markets mixed amid Hong Kong protests

Asian markets went mixed on Thursday after it was reported that the Hong Kong protests seem to be escalating. Protesters blocked the city for the fourth day in a row and students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University clashed with the police using with hand-made weapons, while the police fired tears gas at them.

Japan's Nikkei 225 went down 0.76%, while the South Korean Kospi Composite grew by 0.18% at the same time. Hang Seng fell by 0.80% at 7:10 am CET and Shanghai Composite increased by 0.25% at 6:55 am CET. Shenzhen Composite went up by 0.74% at 7:11 am CET and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.55%.

The dollar was flat against the yen to go for ¥108.717 at 7:13 am CET.
