Pound trades on 6-week highs against dollar

The British pound hit a six-week high on Tuesday as elections remain in focus in the United Kingdom and leaders from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states are gathering in London to discuss global security issues. During a press conference in the British capital, United States President Donald Trump promised that he would "stay out" of any business related to the UK election and added that the US is not seeking the privatization of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) in a future trade deal.

The pound hit a daily high of 1.30033 against the dollar and was 0.29% in the green against the US currency at 1:17 pm CET as it changed hands at 1.29876. The pound also jumped 0.40% compared to the euro as it went for 1.17286 at 1:18 pm CET.
