Chinese tech firm ByteDance will not sell or transfer the algorithm behind its video-sharing app TikTok, the South China Morning Post reported on Sunday citing sources familiar with the matter. The company reportedly informed the United States government and potential bidders about the decision.

According to sources, the Beijing-based company won't settle for any deal on the selling of TikTok's business in the United States that includes algorithm transfer, but "the technology team of TikTok in the US can develop a new algorithm." ByteDance could opt to shut down TikTok's operations in the US if the Trump administration rejects the proposition, the report said.

Previously, US President Donald Trump said TikTok will be fully banned in the country if a takeover isn't completed by September 15.
