Verizon Business and Cisco announced on Wednesday that they will be working together with venues to track crowds and thus enable people to return to sports stadiums and entertainment venues amid the coronavirus pandemic. The companies will combine 5G technology and mobile edge computing (MEC) capabilities to analyze locations, seating, time people spend in lines and more so arenas can manage crows density.

"While all sports and entertainment fans are looking forward to the day they can get back to their favorite venues, many are understandably nervous about their safety in large crowds. This solution will help put minds at ease so fans can re-enter venues with the knowledge that strong steps are being taken to safeguard their wellbeing," Verizon chief product officer Aamir Husain said.

Meanwhile, Verizon added that it has partnerships with the Academy Awards, the Indy 500, as well as the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Football League (NFL) where the technology will be available.
