Japan's manufacturing sector improves in October

Activity in Japan's manufacturing sector improved slightly in November but still remained in contraction territory, a preliminary report by the IHS Markit showed. The Jibun Bank Flash Manufacturing Output Index stood at 47.0, increasing from 46.0 a month earlier.

Meanwhile, the Flash Composite Output Index increased from 46.6 in September to 46.7 in October. However, the Flash Services Business Activity Index decreased by 0.3 month on month and stood at 46.6 in October.

"The economy is slow-going and could remain so in the coming months as a global resurgence of COVID-19 cases could weigh on Japanese economic activity, particularly in the external-facing sectors," principal economist at IHS Markit, Bernard Aw, said.
