European shares mostly lower ahead of ECB decision

Shares on major European stock markets mostly turned to losses on Thursday as the European Central Bank's monetary policy announcement drew closer.

The ECB is expected to leave interest rates unchanged at -0.50%, while policymakers could also urge governments to provide more stimulus measures in order to bolster the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, investors kept an eye on news pertaining to the health crisis as countries across Europe continue to report record caseloads.

The FTSE 100 was flat at 12:26 pm CET. At the same time, the DAX fell 0.21% and the CAC 40 lost 0.57% after opening in the green.
