US markets close higher on GDP data, earnings

Major stock indexes finished trading higher on Thursday as investors rallied from yesterday's losses on better-than-expected economic data. In addition, the latest batch of quarterly earnings was expected right after the markets' close, with Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc., and Facebook Inc. being among the most anticipated. In politics, national economic advisor Larry Kudlow claimed that the US recovery from the coronavirus crisis isn't dependent on potential economic stimulus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 0.52% at the closing bell as Apple Inc. grew 3.05%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced 1.87%, with Moderna Inc. gaining 8.31%. The S&P 500 climbed 1.19%. CBRE Group Inc. was the best performer, surging 16.80%.

The euro was down 0.62% against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, changing hands at $1.16738.
