Europe closes higher on Brexit, vaccine optimism

Major stock indexes in Europe finished trading higher on Wednesday as the investors focused on the negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom. German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed hope that a deal will be reached with London but added that the bloc was prepared for all possible scenarios. Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Jean Castex said that the European Medicines Agency will give its first coronavirus vaccine authorization by December 21.

The FTSE 100 was up 0.88% with M&G plc jumping 4.75%. The DAX grew 1.52% at the closing bell. Delivery Hero SE advanced 5.67%. The CAC 40 increased 0.31%, as Danone S.A.climbed 3.31%.

The euro gained 0.12% against the greenback to sell for 1.21757 at 5:29 pm CET. The pound rose 0.31% to change hands for 1.34905 dollars.
