European indexes close higher on data

Major European stock indexes finished the first trading session of the week in the green on Monday as positive economic data helped elevate investor optimism. Both the Eurozone and the United Kingdom's manufacturing sector activity continued to expand in December. Meanwhile, the UK is expected to raise the virus alert level to tier five, while the German government will reportedly extend the lockdown until January 31.

The FTSE 100 increased 1.72% at the closing bell. Entain plc was the best performer, surging 24.92%. The DAX inched barely above the flatline, propped up by Delivery Hero SE 7.52% jump. The CAC 40 was up 0.68% with ArcelorMittal S.A. growing 4.98%.

The euro rose 0.43% against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET to sell for $1.22692, while the pound fell 0.57% to $1.35890 at the same time.
