Asia mixed as worldwide COVID deaths reach 2M

Stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on Friday as the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the world reached two million and concerns about the pandemic persisted. Meanwhile, the United States Department of Commerce placed two more Chinese companies under sanctions.

The Nikkei 225 decreased by 0.33% at 4:43 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 was up by 0.15% at the same time, while Hang Seng gained 0.14%. The Kospi Composite lost 1.10% at 4:24 am CET.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 0.53% at 4:30 am CET, and the Shenzhen Composite declined by 1.47% at 4:36 am CET.

The dollar traded just 0.07% higher compared to the yen at 4:46 am CET and sold for 103.7765.
