European stocks open higher amid data, earnings

European stock markets started trading above the flatline on Tuesday as investors said on the lookout for today's economic data and corporate earnings. According to the French statistical office INSEE, the unemployment rate in the country fell to 8.0% in Q4 2020, nearing the pre-pandemic level.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.11% at the opening bell with Glencore plc growing 3.51%. The DAX was flat, with Deutsche Boerse NA being the best performer and Adidas AG the worst. The CAC 40 increased 0.17% as Total SE climbed 1.53%.

The euro was flat against the greenback at 8:59 am CET, selling for 1.21292. The pound inched up 0.05% at the same time to change hands for 1.39131 dollars.
