Dow up 200 pts amid virus treatment hopes

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared on Friday amid the data released by Gilead Sciences on its drug aimed at treating COVID-19. Gilead's remdesivir could reduce the fatality rate in coronavirus patients by 62%, according to the paper that the biopharmaceutical company disclosed.

The Dow Jones jumped 0.71% or 204 points at 11:51 am ET, while the S&P 500 gained 0.42%. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 stood flat.

The euro went up by 0.28% against the dollar, buying $1.13167 at 11:54 am ET.
