Precious metals rise as Biden is sworn into office

Precious metals traded higher on Wednesday after Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th United States president.

Traders digested comments made by Biden's Treasury Secretary nominee Janet Yellen about the need for more stimulus to overcome the coronavirus crisis.

Gold gained 1.32 to sell for $1,864.77 per ounce at 1:03 pm ET and silver surged 2.04% to go for $25.67 per ounce a minute later. Platinum rallied 2.27% to change hands for $1,111.30 per ounce at 1:05 pm ET and palladium climbed 1.75% to go for $2,401.04 at the same time.
