Asian stocks dip on surge in bond yields

Major stock market indexes in Asia dipped on Thursday amid worries that the global increase in government bond yields could threaten efforts by the central banks to support economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite fell by 1.91% at 04:24 am CET, with the Shenzhen Composite plunging 3.24% a minute later. At 4:27 am CET, South Korea's Kospi lost 1.32%, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng down by 2.32% a minute later. Japan's Nikkei 225 went down by 1.78% at 04:30 am CET, as the Australian S&P 200 decreased by 0.99%.

The dollar traded 0.10% higher against the yen, going for ¥107.0855 at 04:29 am CET.
