Precious metals recorded losses mid-session on Monday as equities on Wall Street posted strong gains, with the Dow Jones breaking record at the open.

The headwinds to precious metals were caused by a shift of sentiment in financial markets as investors' risk appetite increased following the latest news concerning the US-China trade talks.

Gold declined 0.29% to $1,509.29 per ounce at 1:41 pm ET, while silver lost 0.31% at the same time, going for $18.06 an ounce. Platinum posted the biggest losses, plummeting 1.84% at 1:42 pm ET, changing hands for $932.40 per ounce, while palladium contracted 1.21%, to go for $1,785.96 at 1:44 pm ET.
