FTSE jumps almost 1% after Tories win UK election

European markets opened with gains on Friday as investors saw Brexit certainty after United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservatives won an overwhelming majority in the country's general election.

The FTSE 100 increased 0.98% at 9:12 am CET with Lloyds BAnking Group as the top performer in the index, jumping 18.86% at 9:03 am CET. France's CAC 40 jumped 1.44% at 9 am CET as Arcelormittal jumped 4.94% at 9:01 am CET. The DAX rose 1.28% at 9:04 am CET, led higher by the auto industry.

The euro gained 0.31% against the dollar to change hands for 1.11670 at 9:03 am CET while the pound surged 1.93% compared to the US currency to go for 1.34240 at 9:04 am CET.
