Europe closes mostly lower on pandemic worries

Major European stock markets closed lower on Thursday after World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that the coronavirus pandemic is still out of control in most countries. Also, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, and European Parliament President David Sassoli reached an agreement on an "ambitious European recovery package" being the European Union's highest priority.

The DAX stood flat at the close. Wirecard AG fell by 10.74%. The FTSE 100 went down by 1.68% with Rolls-Royce Holdings going down by 9.76%. The CAC 40 fell by 1.09%. Thales declined by 4.15%.

The euro lost 0.27% to the dollar, with the exchange rate of 1.12992 at 5:32 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling stood flat selling for $1.26143.
