Europe closes mostly higher on German data

Major stock markets in Europe closed mostly higher on Tuesday after Ifo's report that Germany's business climate slightly rose to surpass expectations this month. Meanwhile, more details were released about the last phase of Astrazeneca's COVID-19 vaccine trials. In the United Kingdom, the CBI's survey showed that retailers have continued to layoff staff due to the coronavirus pandemic despite the government's relief.

The DAX grew 0.07% at the closing bell, with MTU Aero Engines surging 3.01%. The CAC 40 rose by 0.15% as the session ended, as Accor SA jumped 4.44%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 dropped 1.08% to end the day. Crh PLC led the losses by declining 3.49%.

The euro gained 0.24% against the dollar to sell for $1.18159 at 5:32 pm CET, and the pound concurrently climbed 0.44% versus the greenback to go for $1.31210.
