US stocks open mostly lower after data

Major stock indexes in the United States opened mixed on Friday after the country's Census Bureau reported new orders for manufactured durable goods in August grew by 0.4% month-on-month. Meanwhile, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency said test flights of Boeing Co.'s 737 MAX "went well."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.45%, with Dow Inc. dropping 1.54%. The Nasdaq 100 increased 0.11%. Trip.com Group Ltd. was the best performer, jumping 5.73%. The S&P 500 surrendered 0.27% as TechnipFMC plc slid 4.44%.

The euro lost 0.33% against the greenback at 9:29 am ET, changing hands for 1.16330. The pound fell 0.24% to sell for 1.27175 dollars.
