Wall Street closes lower on stimulus talk standstill

Major indexes on Wall Street closed lower on Tuesday as the White House is expected to give on Wednesday an official response to the Democrat-designed coronavirus economic stimulus package proposal. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins University reported that the US daily COVID-19 cases increased by 37,719 as New York City's coronavirus daily positivity rate was 3%.

The Dow Industrial Average lost 0.48% at the closing bell as Chevron Corp sank 2.75%. The Nasdaq 100 decreased by 0.37% with Zoom Video Communications' shares diving 4.54%. S&P 500 declined 0.48% as Apache Corp plunged 7.11%.

The euro gained 0.63% compared to the dollar to go for 1.17392 at 3:57 pm ET.
