Senate subpoenas FB, Twitter, Google CEOs

Thursday, 01. October 2020 16:16

The Senate Commerce Committee voted unanimously on Thursday to subpoena the CEOs of Facebook, Google and Twitter to testify before the panel regarding the worries on a prized legal immunity covered by internet companies. The move comes after Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Google's Sundar Pichai and Twitter's Jack Dorsey declined an invitation to attend the hearing.

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell first opposed the subpoena introduced by Chairman Roger Wicker but afterwards, she decided to support the move after Republicans included language in the subpoena about privacy and "media domination."

The Senate Commerce Committee said earlier it will issue subpoenas for the CEOs of the three tech giants, unless they respond to the invitations they received and confirm their appearance at the October 1 tech industry's liability protections hearing
