US stocks up after Pence promises vaccine in weeks

United States stock markets rose in premarket trade on Tuesday as upbeat predictions about the distribution of coronavirus vaccines came from the White House. US Vice President Mike Pence claimed that a "safe and effective" vaccine will be distributed in "just a few weeks" after Moderna became the second company to apply for emergency use authorization for its vaccine candidate.

The Dow Jones jumped 1.12% or 335 points at 4:38 am ET. The S&P 500 gained 1.07% at the same time. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.79% at 4:39 am ET.

The euro traded 0.43% higher against the dollar and sold for 1.19788 at 4:39 am ET.
