Russia slams UK ruling in Venezuela gold case as 'outrageous'

The Russian Foreign Ministry described on Saturday the decision by the United Kingdom to deny Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's right to withdraw Venezuela's UK-stored gold assets as "outrageous."

"This decision is outrageous," a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry said before adding that the ruling violates "a number of principles and norms of the international law, including non-interference in domestic affairs, respect of sovereignty and immunity of government assets."

Earlier this week, a UK court rejected Maduro's request for the release of $1 billion worth of Venezuela's gold deposited for safekeeping at the Bank of England.
