Lufthansa AG missed analysts' expectations on Thursday as it reported its loss per share for the first quarter of 2018 stood at €0.12, down 20% from a loss of €0.15 per share achieved in the same period a year ago. The first-quarter net loss amounted to €57 million, improving compared to a net loss of €68 million in the same period in 2017.

The airline said its total revenues for the three-month period decreased 0.7% year on year to €7.6 billion, with traffic revenue down 0.4% to €5.8 billion. Meanwhile, EBIT surged 68.8% to €27 million and adjusted EBIT rose 4% to €26 million during the January to March period.

"Despite incurring high one-off expenses at Eurowings, we again managed to steadily further reduce our unit costs while simultaneously investing in the quality of our product," CFO Ulrik Svensson said.
