Wall Street rises on open amid China deal optimism

Shares on Wall Street started the trading session higher after it was reported that the United States and China are in the "final stages" of trade negotiations and that a comprehensive deal is planned for signing by the end of the month. Shortly after, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett stated that "a lot of progress" has been made in talks with Beijing.

In data, construction spending figures compiled by the Census Bureau are set for release after the bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index added 0.47% at the start. Caterpillar rose over 1%, outperforming others.

The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.62%, pulled up by Applied Materials, which jumped over 4%. The S&P 500 increased by 0.46%.

The euro lost 0.27% against the dollar to go for $1.13335 at 9:32 am ET.
