Wall Street opens flat amid rising trade tensions

Equities on United States stock markets opened unchanged on Thursday as enthusiasm for improvement of trade relations between Washington and Beijing withered with the media reports Chinese officials will leave negotiations early. Meanwhile, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries announced its output dropped in August. On data, the Department of Labor reported general inflation remained unchanged in September while initial jobless claims for the week ending October 5 fell by 10,000.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was 0.10% bellow the flatline at the beginning of the trading session, as Cisco Systems Inc. dropped 2.02%. The Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 started flat, with Activision Blizzard Inc. being the worst performer, losing 3.11%.

The euro was up 0.47% against the dollar to sell for $1.10230 at 9:29 am ET, while the pound rose 0.17% to $1.22276.
