Fauci says he was afraid of contradicting Trump

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and White House Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci said at a press conference on Thursday that he is glad to be able to speak freely now that President Joe Biden is in the White House because he had feared there would be "repercussions" if he publicly disagreed with former President Donald Trump.

Commenting on his time on Trump's COVID-19 team, Fauci stated "things were uncomfortable," especially on the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine which he said Trump hailed as a cure for the coronavirus on a non-scientific basis.

He noted he took "no pleasure at all" in contradicting a president and went on to say that it is a "liberating feeling" to be able to talk about science now.
