Eurozone's retail sales down by 1.6% in December

The seasonally adjusted volume of goods sold in retail in the Eurozone fell 1.6% in December compared to the previous month, Eurostat said on Wednesday. On an annual scale, retail sales added 1.3% in December, the report from the European Union's statistical office added.

Retail trade in the euro area decreased by 1.6% for non-food products and by 1.4% for food, drinks, tobacco and automotive fuels. Year-over-year, the volume of retail trade rose by 3.6% for non-food products, while for food, drinks and tobacco the retail sales fell by 0.7%. The sales of automotive fuels were down 3.7% on an annual scale.

The highest decreases in the twelfth month were observed in Germany, Slovenia and Finland, whereas the largest increases among eurozone members were measured in Ireland and Malta.
