Pound slides as UK may exit trade talks with US

The British pound traded lower against major currencies on Monday with sterling dropping to its lowest level against the euro since October 17 amid fresh trade uncertainty. British International Trade Secretary Liz Truss warned that the United Kingdom may walk away from trade negotiations with the United States unless the talks result in the deal UK wants.

Meanwhile, British health officials announced that 12 people were confirmed positive for coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 36. United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson asserted that the infection represents a "significant challenge" for the country, claiming that the government and the National Health Service (NHS) are determined to curb the spreading of COVID-19.

The pound slipped 0.29% against the greenback, going for 1.27825 at 11:16 am CET, while the euro jumped 0.75% to sell for £0.86737 at the same time.
