Europe turns to gains amid COVID-19 cure hopes

Stocks on major European markets started trading higher on Friday amid positive reports by Gilead Sciences. The biopharmaceutical company released data on its antiviral drug remdesivir suggesting that it could curb the mortality rate in COVID-19 patients by 62%.

The DAX rose by 0.85% at 3:32 pm CET, while the CAC 40 gained 0.73% at the same time. Concurrently, in London, the FTSE 100 went up by 0.67%.

The euro increased by 0.25% versus the dollar, selling for $1.13134 at 3:27 pm CET.
