US opens higher ahead of Powell hearing, data

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Tuesday ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's hearing before the House Financial Services Committee. Traders are also waiting for the National Association of Realtors' report on housing market conditions.

Meanwhile, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said he expected the lawmakers would be able to agree on the stopgap spending bill. Lastly, Nanox Imaging and Tesla both saw a drop in shares value.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.06% higher at the opening as Apple increased by 0.52%. The Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.90%, with MercadoLibre gaining 2.22%. The S&P 500 rose by 0.46% as CarMax Inc. grew by 3.98%. The euro lost 0.14% to the dollar to sell for $1.17544 at 9:27 am ET.
