Bayer to pay $2B in another Roundup trial

Bayer AG has been ordered to pay $2 billion to a California couple who said that the company's weed killer Roundup caused their cancer.

The court in Oakland, California ruled that the couple Alva and Alberta Pilliod used Roundup for more than 30 years for landscaping and it posed a "substantial factor" in them developing cancer. The German company said it will appeal the verdict.

Last year Bayer bought Monsanto Co., which makes Roundup, and the company has already lost two trials over Roundup cancer claims. Bayer said it will appeal those verdicts as well. Following the lawsuits, Bayer shareholders last month voted against the acquisition of Monsanto.
