Bayer AG president of the crop science division Liam Condon said on Thursday that the company is "confident" that its appeals of the earlier court ruling regarding its controversial weed killer Roundup would be successful. Condon pointed out, speaking to reporters, that Bayer appealed to the jury rulings and that the judges decided to hear the case, which the company sees as a favorable circumstance.

Earlier this week, a court in Oakland, California ordered Bayer to pay $2 billion to Alva and Alberta Pilliod, the couple who said that Roundup caused their cancer. The court determined the weedkiller was a "substantial factor" in the couple developing the condition, as they were using Roundup for landscaping for more than 30 years.
