European markets close lower after Johnson-Juncker meeting

Equities on major European stock markets closed in the red on Monday following the British Prime Minister Boris Jonhson's meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. Following the meeting, Johnson claimed there was a "good chance" London will reach an agreement with Brussels before the October 31 deadline. Apple Inc. was expected to contest the European Commission's ruling that it must pay €13 billion in Irish taxes.

The FTSE 100 was 0.63% lower at the end of the session as Evraz plc dropped 3.14%. The DAX slipped 0.71% with Lufthansa AG tumbled 2.84%. The CAC 40 decreased 0.94% as LVMH lost 3.60%.

The euro fell 0.7% to $1.09975 at 5:29 pm CET, while the pound declined 0.66% against the dollar to change hands for 1.24170 at the same time.
