Bayer AG announced on Thursday it has reached a $1.6 billion settlement with nearly all parties that sued the company in the United States over its Essure birth control device.

Nearly 40,000 women claimed to have been injured by Essure, however, Bayer said "there is no admission of wrongdoing or liability by Bayer in the settlement agreements."

Earlier this year, Bayer agreed to settle with the thousands of plaintiffs in the case regarding its glyphosate-based weed killer Roundup in a deal worth $10 billion.
