US opens lower as election votes counting nears end

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Friday as Democratic presidential candidate and former US Vice President Joe Biden seems closer to the White House as the vote count continues in four crucial states in the 2020 election. On the data front, nonfarm employment increased by 638,000 in October, rising for the sixth consecutive month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 0.08% at the opening as Apple decreased by 1.87%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 0.24% with Electronic Arts plunging 8.87%, while the S&P 500 went down by 0.09%. Skyworks Solutions was the worst performer slipping by 2.15%.

The euro advanced by 0.39% against the dollar to sell for 1.18758 at 9:26 am ET.
