Wall Street closes higher with stimulus in focus

Trading on Wall Street finished on a higher note on Tuesday many investors see a relief package as essential for the economy to bridge the gap between now and the broader rollout of coronavirus vaccines. A bipartisan group of lawmakers released earlier a $908 billion aid package while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said US senators will not leave Washington for the Christmas holidays until they reach an agreement on the country's fourth coronavirus stimulus package.

The Dow Jones gained 1.13% or 340 points at the close with Apple rising by 5.01%. The S&P 500 was up 1.29% as Wynn Resorts Limited increased by 6.10%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 surged 1.07% to its record. Baidu was the best performer jumping by 13.83%.

The euro increased by 0.09% against the greenback, trading for 1.21581 at 3:56 pm ET.
