Mexico's AMLO accuses FB, Twitter of censorship

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador accused Facebook and Twitter of censorship on Friday after the tech giants blocked US President Donald Trump's accounts amid riots in Washington DC.

"What they did to Trump was very serious," Lopez Obrador, also known as AMLO, said and added it is important to create alternative means of communications so that private social media companies aren't "a court of censorship" that decides who can communicate to the public.

Twitter locked Trump's account for 12 hours and deleted some of his tweets amid the protests by his supporters but has since reactivated it. Meanwhile, Facebook blocked the outgoing US president's account at least until January 20, when his successor Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed Trump poses a threat to a "peaceful and lawful transition of power."
