US opens lower after new private payroll results

Major stock markets opened lower on Wednesday after the latest ADP National Employment Report revealed the number of jobs in the private sector in February grew by 117,000, significantly below expectations. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden withdrew his nomination of Neera Tanden for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director at her request after several senators opposed her appointment.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.09% lower as Verizon Communications Inc. declined by 0.84%. The Nasdaq 100 went down by 0.23%, with Dollar Tree Inc. falling by 2.17%. The S&P 500 decreased 0.15% as Newmont Corporation dropped by 3.07%.

The euro lost 0.31% to the dollar to change hands for $1.20526 at 9:27 am ET.
