South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong (pictured) said on Wednesday that he hopes that the United States will "help" his country with "the difficulties" in coronavirus vaccine supply.

The US assistance should be "based on the spirit of solidarity that we showed last year," he noted at a forum in South Korea, as quoted by the Yonhap News Agency. Last year, South Korea had sent 2 million face masks along with domestically-made coronavirus test kits to the US "at the request" of Washington, Chung specified.

Seoul will also be looking to cooperate with the US on the global supply chain, especially regarding semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries, he stressed.
