US closes mostly higher amid earnings season

Wall Street stock markets closed mostly higher on Monday as investors brace themselves for the busiest week of the first-quarter earnings season with Tesla kicking off first. The US Census Bureau reported earlier that new orders for manufactured durable goods rose by 0.05% in March to $1.4 billion.

The travel industry found optimism in the news about EU and US governments looking into opening travel space for vaccinated American tourists. British Airways CEO also said he sees UK-US travel restoring soon. Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci announced his expectation to reach a turning point on the coronavirus pandemic "within a few weeks".

The Dow Jones closed the session with 0.18% below the flatline as Procter & gamble dropped by 2%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.18% with Otis soaring by 7%. The Nasdaq 100 grew by 0.61% led by Skyworks Solutions jumping 4.58%. The euro lost 0.07% against the dollar to sell for $1.20895 at 4:06 pm ET.
