Hino Motors, the truck division of Toyota Motor Corp., has signed a strategic business alliance agreement with e-mobility innovator REE Automotive Ltd. aiming to provide "new value to society through next-generation commercial mobility," according to a joint announcement by the companies released on Tuesday.

The new business alliance aims to combine REE's innovative and highly competitive REEcorner EV technologies with Hino's knowledge and expertise in the field of commercial vehicle manufacturing in order to co-create next-generation electric mobility solutions. Hino and REE will aim to improve the quality of life on a global scale by lowering carbon emissions, bringing the strain on infrastructure to a minimum, reducing congestion, and allowing for better resource allocation by both companies. The first hardware prototypes to come from this collaboration are expected to arrive by 2022.

Earlier this year, Hino joined SoftBank Group and Toyota's mobility service partnership alongside automaker Honda Motor Co.
